Ipang (Vino G. Bastian) dan Nugi (Herjunot Ali) adalah sepasang anak bengal yang menyimpan kekecewaan mendalam kepada dunia. Ipang mendapati dirinya anak pungut, dan Nugi kehilangan sosok ayah setelah mengetahui ternyata ayahnya justru menjadi seorang transseksual. Pelarian mereka hanyalah persahabatan satu sama lain, dan memuntahkan kemarahan kepada dunia luar. Dan seorang pemilik toko kaset bernama Sandra (Nadine Chandrawinata) menjadi sahabat ketiga dalam kelompok mereka, sebagai sosok yang tampaknya memahami mereka. Seandainya semua sesederhana itu.
Meskipun tidak memenangi penghargaan apapun, Realita Cinta dan Rock’n Roll dikenang sebagai film yang sungguh menguarkan semangat rock ’n roll, di periode ketika sinema Indonesia juga sedang memiliki semangat yang sama.

Ipang (Vino G. Bastian) and Nugi (Herjunot Ali) were a pair of lost boys with deep resentments against the institutions and the world at large. Ipang has just found out that he’s not even his family’s blood ties and Nugi lost his father-figure in finding out that his legendary father had been a trans recently. Their only outlet were their friendship and causing havoc upon the corrupted world. Also, by forming a special relationship with a record store owner named Sandra (Nadine Chandrawinata) as their third in a group, seemingly the sole people in the world to have understand them. but of course, things were always not that simple.
Even with no awards gained, the film is still noted as a milestone of its own. It captured the spirit of rock ’n roll earnestly, as well as voicing out many youth’s concerns with the state of Indonesia at that time, which was in the middle of a newfound freedom with no clear course of what’s next. In short, Indonesia itself was in a rock ’n roll mode at that time, and the film had recorded its voice.
