Zero is the beginning of time and space, the blank canvas, the empty cup, the womb, the void that is ready for the birth of endless possibilities. Human life is simultaneously a succession of fleeting moments and a durational journey like the slow crawl of a snail. Daily happenings, sensations, thoughts, and feelings occur, remain, and then cease with the unique rhythm of existence. So too do history and civilisations. Sometimes, we hold on so dearly to specific memories, nostalgia, yearnings, or fears as though time has stopped and we're trapped. Yet freedom remains an open choice, a quiet liberation to fly from within, in our very own way. When you finally dare to fly, take a moment to observe through a bird's eyes-the vaulted sky is filled with a thousand other wings moving in a marvellous rhythm!
From Zero To Infinity is a special programme from KLEX that brings together experimental and animated videos by seven female artists from Malaysia, China, Taiwan, and the US. Ranging from poetry films, experimental travelogues, and diary films to stop-motion animation and found-footage collages, these works weave together analogue and digital techniques. Together, they explore themes of memory, history, politics, self-reflexivity, artificial intelligence, spiritual yearning, and our shared humanity.
