In Hamburg, Ibrahim "Ibo" Secmez, of Turkish descent, has one obsession: to make the first German Kung-Fu movie. To pave his path in achieving his long life goal, Ibo makes commercial for a kebab restaurant, owned by his uncle. Things get more complicated when hi German girlfriend, Titzi, reveals that she's pregnant. While struggling to embrace the responsibilities of becoming a father, Ibo also has to face the cultural clash between the roots of his homeland and his home-country.

Written by himself with Fatih Akin and three other collaborators, KEBAB CONNECTION takes a refreshing and merry approach to the questions of difference, and underlying issues of prejudice and discrimination, that drive its narrative. Its positive outlook on the ability of people to be decent to each other makes it enjoyable and satisfying to watch.

Ulasan

Ethnic comedies don't get much more enjoyable than "Kebab Connection,"

an imaginatively directed laffer working off tensions between Turkish and Greek emigrants

in Germany. Stereotypes are played thick and fast, but good-natured self-mockery

and star Dennis Moschitto's terrific physicality carry the pic,

even when it wimpishly ties everything up at the end.

Most importantly for a romantic comedy, the movie persuades you to root for Ibo and Titzi,

knowing that their being together is better than their being apart.

As a matter of philosophy, in a world riven by divisions, where identifications

with religion and ethnicity are literally seen as life-and-death matters,

there are far worse messages than Kebab Connection's humanistic one

that love and decency can overcome barriers between people.
